High Pressure

High pressure
Pressure could be defined as something unwanted in the human vernacular.
For our feathered friends returning to the boreal forest for the abundance and safety that exist in necessity for raising their young, pressure means easier flying conditions, clear skies, not a lot of wind and plenty of sunshine.
Today in the high-pressure system we are in up here all things are enjoying the hastening of the snow melt which also reduces the albedo effect causing surface temperatures to raise significantly.
There’s nothing like a Canadian spring.
This morning as I looked at the clear blue sky, I thought to myself, where are the tree swallows? Tree swallows are always an indicator of good temperatures for the foreseeable spring as they are very sensitive to cold. Not more than a half hour later, I saw the first Tree swallow.
Today I took a trip to town to help a new farmer find some land to farm. On my way, the fields all around Eaglet Lake had become filled with snow melt water. In them, hoards of waterfowl had stopped for a bite and a drink.
As a long time waterfowl hunter from the central flyways, spring here is something to behold.
Like the migrating avian dinosaurs, I too arrived migrating north on a high-pressure good weather drive from the heart of what is known by some as the USA.
A good place to raise your young. Wide open space and a beauty that takes my breath away every day coupled with a human diversity that only makes it that more welcoming and beautiful.
I moved north to Alaska in 2007 and then after bumping into a good looking French Canadian and getting married on a mountain I moved to BC in 2010.
Hard to believe I’ve been here all these years now.
A little while back I decided to begin the process of renouncing my American citizenship. I haven’t had any thoughts of ever moving back from the moment I entered Canada. My American friends I made while here told me dropping my US citizenship would be hard and take a long time. I never actually looked it up on what it would take because as a farmer starting a business, I was way too taxed on time and projects to want to add complexity, more documents and lots more money to my already busy life growing food for British Columbians. Apparently it’s a lot easier than I thought, takes less time and money. No excuses now.
Today I took one step closer to just being a Canadian and not American.
Getting my photos taken by a fellow immigrant for my documents felt pretty damn good on this beautiful spring day.
Everyone out there voting this spring, do me a favour and keep Canada as the progressive country I’ve become to know it as. Canada isn’t perfect but from my perspective it’s always moving in a better direction every year that I’ve been here.
When I arrived one of the things I found interesting was that Canada out all the G7 nations didn’t have to bail out it’s banks during the recession of 2008/9. Carney was in charge of Canadian monetary policy then as the governor of the Bank of Canada. I am not much of a party voter myself but more of a person voter.
Is this a political post on my business page? Not really, just an admiration of spring in a beautiful place I’d like to see stay beautiful and classy.
